316 United Newsletter 05/17/24

City of Wichita Cyber-attack | Local Events

As Memorial Day approaches, we are shifting gears from spring to summer. We’ve swapped textbooks for swimming pools, and ball practices for all weekend out-of-town tournaments.

Even though the frequently of these newsletters might be slowing down, we are renewing our commitment to sustainability.

Recent events, like the City of Wichita’s website being breached, has reminded me why 316 United Collaborators agreed that a local newsletter is what we need to bring people together for a greener and more sustainable city. As our city struggles to deal with the fallout of this cyber-attack, we must not lose sight of that we all have a responsibility to safeguard our environment and our community.

I recently attended a District Advisory Board meeting, which was not recorded because of the website breach, so fewer people could attend. As the evening progressed, I found myself and one other person remaining when the city’s budget was presented. It served as sad reminder that many decisions impacting our lives are often made in the absence of public input.

Now is the time to speak up, especially about keeping our data safe and supporting green initiatives with city funds. It is never too late to become involved to raise our voices, and to demand accountability.

Got ideas or need advice on getting more involved? Drop me an email at [email protected]. Together we can make our city - and our world - a better place.

Until next time, Randi
