April is always buzzing with Earth Day energy — from neighborhood cleanups to river revitalization. But this year, Wichita is turning up the volume! Thanks to the City of Wichita’s Public Works & Utilities, we’ve got even more happening to help residents conserve water, improve air quality, and protect the planet we call home.

And yes — full disclosure — I’m one of the organizers 😄 of an upcoming Earth Day.
Alongside Lori Lawrence and with support from our District 3 City Commissioner Michael Hoheisel, we’re thrilled to invite you to 🌍 Earth Day ICT 2025, Saturday, April 26 | 1–4 PM | LW Clapp Park | 4611 E Harry St, Wichita, KS 🌿

🌱 Why should you come? Because we’ve got big goals:

Waste Tire Collection Event - Free

April 11th-12th, 9 am - 3 pm Sedgwick County West Yard, 4701 S. West St, Wichita, KS 67217 This event is open to Sedgwick County residents, farmers, and local government only. NO BUSINESSES. There is a disposal limit of 50 tires per person. Please be prepared to unload your own tires. Tires on rims will be accepted.

Spring Work Day

Saturday, April 12 2025 9 am - Noon. Great Plains Nature Center and Wichita Park & Recreation, 6232 E 29th St N, Wichita, KS Spring workday is a great opportunity to clean up the trails and get the park ready for the warm, sunny seasons ahead. A volunteer lunch will be provided! Participants must sign up via [email protected].

Wichita River Cleanup - Event by Krystina Furst and Wichita RiverWalk Cleanup Crew

Saturday, April 12 2025 n Saturday, April 12th at 10:00 am, This is their monthly cleanup at the east side of the Keeper of the Plains (opposite side from Exploration Place). Meet by the bridge. Bags, gloves, and grabbers will all be provided. Please leave pets behind. Wear a sturdy pair of shoes that you are okay with getting dirty.

Open Streets ICT - WSU & Shocker Neighborhood

Sunday, April 13, 12–4 PM Open Streets ICT – WSU & Shocker Neighborhood! 17th Street (Oliver to Volutsia), just south of Wichita State University. Enjoy food trucks and live music. Explore unique shops and businesses along the route. As you move through the open streets, you'll not only activate the community but also foster your own wellness journey, making this a day of fun and positive change. More information on our website.

Water Conservation Rebate Program​

Starting on April 14, City of Wichita water customers can pick up a FREE low-flow shower head  or sink aerator while supplies last at the City Hall information desk, one of our Wichita Public Library locations, or a City of Wichita neighborhood resource center.

Documentary & Talk: "Hot Times in the Heartland"

Saturday, April 19, 2025 2 pm - 4 pm Advanced Learning Library, 711 W 2nd St N. Wichita KS. Join us for a screening of "Hot Times in the Heartland," a documentary about the impacts of climate change in Kansas, followed by discussion and Q&A with Ethan Kershaw, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Wichita's Department of Public Works and Utilities.

Coffee Social : Treehugger Tuesday

Tuesday, April 15 2025 9am Coffee, Community, & Cultivation @Safe Streets, 1200 E Waterman, 9 am
We start our day with a cozy coffee social while watching the City Council livestream, chatting about local happenings, and sharing resources. Afterward, we head out into the community to garden together. Bring your favorite mug, your ideas, and your green thumb (or borrow one of ours).
